Can you believe fall has arrived? Each year, even in Florida during the off-season, summer seems to suddenly evaporate. Do you remember the long-ago summer of 1956, when you began preparations for the Skidmore journey that lay ahead? Today, Skidmore is a far different place – one that has grown with the times and become a pace setter for adaptation to a new – and far more complex−world.
For the Class of 2017, Skidmore received a record number of 8,300 applications, the largest applicant pool in the history of the College. Those offered admittance come from 48 states and 57 countries. More than 23 percent are self-identified as students of color, and 10 percent hail from international locales. Nearly 43 percent of this class is receiving financial aid. Skidmore’s commitment to financial aid has more than doubled since 2003 and now stands at $39 million. This would not be possible without the strong support of more than 10,000 alumni, parents, and friends who, during the 2012-13 fiscal year, contributed approximately $16 million to the College. Annual Fund donations provide direct support of learning in labs, classrooms, studios and beyond; endowed gifts strengthen the College in perpetuity while generating funds for student aid, facilities and other needs.
For the second consecutive year, Skidmore has been named to the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll, while being ranked #9 in Newsweek’s College Rankings 2012: 25 Happiest Schools. Backstage magazine also named the Skidmore Dance Department one of the Top Five Dance Programs in the country. None of these accolades or accomplishments would be possible without the inspired leadership of President Glotzbach, his dedicated team of faculty and administration, the unwavering support of a generous and loyal alumni and business community, and a commitment to excellence by the entire student body. Thank you for the important role you play in Making Creative Thought Happen on the Skidmore campus and beyond.
