I hope this letter finds you and your families doing well and ready for fall. As we have just completed a very successful reunion cycle (thanks again!), it is time to look to the future. I thought you’d like to hear news from campus and how Skidmore is preparing for the future as well.
Skidmore received a record number (8,300) of applications this year, with a significant increase in diversity and international applicants. Members of the Class of 2017 come from 48 states, so Skidmore is definitely a national school. Thanks to the generosity of donors, including our reunion class gift, 43% of the class will receive financial aid, making it possible for deserving students to get a Skidmore education and contribute to the campus community.
More than 10,000 alumni, parents, and friends made gifts to Skidmore during the 2012–13 fiscal year. Annual Fund gifts ($6.9 million last year), including our reunion class gift, went to direct support of learning in labs, classrooms, studios, and beyond. Endowed gifts strengthened the College in perpetuity as well as generated funds for student aid, facilities, and other needs. In addition, 1,091 donors joined the Friends of the Presidents giving society in 2012–13, contributing $14.4 million.
Twelve of the 2012-13 athletic teams went on to post-season competition. The women's riding team won a national title, the golf team made it to a national tournament for the 26th consecutive year, and the College had its first-ever All-American named in men's hockey. In the spring of 2013, 106 student-athletes were recognized as members of the Thoroughbred Society for earning a 3.67 GPA or above during the previous fall semester. Skidmore sports teams are off to a great start this season.
It will be another five years until our next reunion, so let’s make a class-wide effort to stay connected to each other and the College. The Class of ’88 should be as much a part of Skidmore’s future just as we were part of its rich past. Please support our class secretary by sending Victoria King, email@example.com, your news and please support our class fund chair and class agents with your continued generosity. Your support truly goes a long way and makes us part of Skidmore’s remarkable success. Thank You!
As always, you can reach me at (912) 596-1927 or firstname.lastname@example.org. If you have not joined our Class of 1988 Facebook page, please do so. It is extremely easy.
