As I write this, 31 students have already started academic classes in London, England, and according to Instagram, the Class of 2017 has just finished Convocation in the gym, wearing slightly less glaring green t-shirts to start their journeys as Thoroughbreds. As campus returns to its bustling nature, and the leaves start to fall, I wanted to share some fabulous updates from 815 North Broadway.
• Skidmore was voted #9 in Newsweek’s “College Rankings 2012: 25 Happiest Schools” and Backstage named the Skidmore Dance Department one of the Top Five Dance Programs in the country. There you have it, statistical proof that Skidmore is awesome!
• Gathering up more national recognition, Skidmore has been named to the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll for the second consecutive year. Double the awesome!
• You predicted it; the Class of 2017 shattered our former record for largest applicant pool, with a whopping 8,300 applications – over 1,450 of those coming from international students.
• Tshediso Johannes Matake ’15 has been selected a winner of this year’s $10,000 Davis Project for Peace with his project that promotes peace and environmental sustainability through computer literacy seminars in South Africa.
I hope wherever you are, that you had fun representing the Green and Gold on College Colors day on August 30th, and that you are enjoying a wonderful fall season. Here’s looking forward to our paths crossing at an alumni event soon.
All the best,
2011 Class President
