Wow, it has already been more than a year since we graduated from Skidmore College! It is crazy how fast time flies when we are having fun, or, when we are just moving along with nature and getting older and wiser. Make the most of all opportunities granted to you and strive for greater ones; time is our most valuable commodity. I hope your various and unique ventures are going well! I want take this opportunity to inform you that the place we came from and grew to love and respect has been doing very well. Here are just a few great highlights from Skidmore’s 2012-2013 academic year:
o Skidmore saw the largest applicant pool in its history: there were 8,300 applications for the Class of 2017. International applications increased to more than 1,450 from 650 last year. More than 23% of the 2017 class are self-identified as students of color, and 10 percent are international.
o Skidmore awarded more than $39 million in student aid in 2013-14, with the grant portion of each package averaging $33,100. Nearly 43% of the Class of 2017 has received Skidmore aid.
o Newsweek's "College Rankings 2012: 25 Happiest Schools" counted Skidmore #9. It also reflected 88% of Skidmore students would choose the same school again and a 95% full-time student retention rate
o Skidmore has been named to the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll for the second consecutive year.
o Backstage Magazine named the Skidmore Dance Department one of the Top Five Dance Programs in the country.
o Twelve of the 2012-13 athletic teams went on to post-season competition. The women's riding team won a national title, the golf team made the WCAA national tournament for the 26th consecutive year, and the College had its first-ever All-American named in men's hockey.
o Annual Fund gifts ($6.9 million last year) go immediately to direct support of learning in labs, classrooms, studios, and beyond.
o During the 24-hour 5/01 Donor Challenge, more than 1,500 alumni, parents, and friends made gifts on May 1, 2013, beating the previous single-day giving record. The end result was $250,000 in gifts to Skidmore!
That is all for now. I hope that you have been able to visit Skidmore since graduation, and you have retained and made new Skidmore connections in your respective locations around the globe! Best of luck in the remainder of 2013 and I hope you have a wonderful and prosperous 2014.
