Class of 1964

February 2014

Dear Classmates,

Sophomore Year.  The Van Deusen smoker.  Playing bridge.  Wearing big metal rollers.  Hoping for a phone call from a Dartmouth guy.  Puffing on a Parliament.  Sound familiar?

That’s not me but the photo above could have been in my family album.  Thanks to dear friend Betty Anne Edge Kreutziger’s recent email, I took a trip down Memory Lane where images of Dippity-Do Setting Gel, black and white saddle shoes, nylons and garter belts triggered memories of 50 years ago.

I no longer have a hair dryer like that.  Nor do I smoke, use Dippity-Do or don stockings.  What I do retain are fabulous 50 year old memories, especially of our time at Skidmore.

And those memories are getting stirred almost every day in emails and notes I’m receiving from you about our Reunion this May.  A nursing major who hasn’t been back to campus since graduation is coming all the way from California.   A long-time Class Agent wrote, concerned that her “lack of responsiveness due to family problems” might prevent her from helping at this Reunion -- she’s been assured her help and presence are most welcome.
Another classmate who has written a personal memoir got in touch to see if she could share
her book with all returning ’64 alumnae.  I can’t tell you how happy I am to witness such enthusiasm.

Be on the lookout for a March 15 mailing from the College with Reunion registration information.  The daytime program is being finalized.  Our wonderful evening events are being tweaked by Ellen Pomeranz Sax.  All we need is YOU to make our 50th reunion a smashing success.

Keep in mind too that in honor of our 50th Reunion we have designated our class gift to name a gallery in the Tang Teaching Museum and Art Gallery (to leave a lasting legacy on campus), and to fund scholarships for deserving Skidmore students. Our Annual Fund goal is $350,000 - 400,000 and we are well on our way with nearly $235,000 in gifts and pledges. Our Class Agents will be calling if you have not already made your commitment so please give it some thought. We want to reach 64% participation from our class and every gift counts toward that goal. If you have ever considered becoming a member of the Friends of the Presidents by making a gift of $2,500 or more this is the year to do it - we already have 23 FOP donors!

Yes, we would like you to contribute to the Annual Fund.  But we also want YOU in Saratoga Springs May 29 -June 1, 2014.  Think about it and remember -- there will never be another 50th Reunion for our class.  This is the year!  Come and join the fun.

All the best,

     Val
