April 2013
Greetings Classmates,
How are things? Crazy, I know, crazy busy! We've all discovered the beauty of our 30s - new passions, new careers, new cities, new family members. We're older and wiser, but never boring. Hearing about what our classmates are doing still blows me away - we're rocking out in indie bands, producing TV and radio, starting magazines and consulting firms, mixologizing, designing, and teaching and raising some amazing future Skiddies. Thirteen years (!) after graduation, even if the distances are greater and our time together harder to come by, the friendships are stronger than ever.
Meanwhile, the College has worked hard (competing against much better-resourced peer institutions) to stay ahead of the curve on student aid even as tuition costs have increased. Many of us remember the support and sacrifices that made it possible for us to be at Skidmore - and this year, the College awarded more than $36 million in student aid, including more than 42% of the Class of 2016. These funds make it possible to build a class based on talents, diversity, and the great energy that makes Skidmore special. Last year, more than 10,000 gifts from alumni and friends totaled over $21 million, including the largest number of gifts in a single day, on May 1, 2012. Help keep that momentum in participation rate up this year by making an annual fund gift in any amount at: www.skidmore.edu/makeagift
While you're at it, take a minute to send your latest news to Lauren Granahan at rhubs5@hotmail.com for class notes. Seriously, do it right now! Preach!
Skidmore continues to support recent graduates and alumni, as well. The Career Development Center has brought on Jenna Hartwell as the new Associate Director of Alumni Career Development. Jenna provides individual career counseling to Skidmore graduates and works with alumni to create networking connections for current students and alums. She seems like a great resource; alumni interested in working with Jenna may contact her by calling the Career Development Center at (518) 580-5790.
Have an awesome summer! And if you're in Portland, Maine, this summer, look me up!
Cheers,
Allison
