Dear Classmates,

     Spring Semester is underway at Skidmore.  The first-year students who studied abroad in London this past fall have joined the on-campus community, and the Class of 2013 is in the final stretch of their Skidmore experience.  Do you remember being on the cusp of life after Skidmore?  Do you recall that sense of closing one chapter and beginning something new?  After only four short but powerful years as students, we spend most of our lives as Skidmore alumni.  What keeps us connected?  As much as the special moments at Skidmore stand out in my mind, what anchors me to those years and continues to connect me to Skidmore is people—it’s you, our class, our professors, and all the people who made our time at Skidmore interesting, challenging, and inspiring.

     Remember Sheldon Solomon and his “just-rolled-out-of-bed” look? He continues to inspire students with his provocative lectures and research. Professor Ron Seyb in Government hosted a special election night party in the Tang this past November where he provided commentary for the students, faculty, staff, and community members who attended.  These are just a few of the many faculty who matter to us as alumni and to current students.

     I’m writing in celebration of all the people who made the College what it was for us and in support of those who continue its important mission.  It is up to us to help ensure this work continues by making a gift.  Our gifts—no matter the size—truly matter and make it possible for faculty and students to work together on collaborative research or across a seminar table.  We can have an immediate impact on the individual people who keep the College moving forward.  Our gifts support the financial aid program that funds a Skidmore education for over 40 percent of students on campus.  Giving offers each of us an opportunity to commemorate the Skidmore we recall so fondly at the same time we celebrate the college it is today.
