Dear Class of '75,
Welcome to your class web page. As you may have noticed, it now resides within Skidmore Connect, the secure alumni social network and online community, which we think is convenient. Wondering what your freshman roommate is up to these days? You can search for him or her by clicking the directory tab at the top of the page. When the listing comes up, you’ll have the option of shooting off an email to say "hi" and adding roomie to your friends list. To get started, you must first activate your account and login.
We hope you will take some time to explore all the features available to you in Skidmore Connect. You’ll find quick instructions for each task by clicking on the Tutorials tab above. We strongly encourage you to get the ball rolling in a few ways:
1. Customize your profile page. You can decide what information you would like displayed and add a profile photo.
2. Submit a class note. Why make your friends wait for the next SCOPE magazine to find out you got married, moved to Albuquerque, and patented an online bridal chapel complete with a rush-order gift registry and virtual rice rental for guests?
3. Upload a photo along with that note. Both will appear on your profile as well as your Skidmore Connect class group page (to enter SC class group page, click the icon on upper right). Your note will also be viewable by any community member who clicks the Class Notes tab above and searches by class year or name.
If you have logged in using Facebook Connect (for instructions, see (FAQs) you have the option of having the note and photo you submitted in Skidmore Connect post simultaneously on your Facebook profile page. Wow, now that’s pretty efficient social networking.
Speaking of social networks, many of you like to stay in touch using Facebook. If you are interested in starting a class Facebook group, or have already done so, please send me the url at the email address listed below so I can link to it from this page.
But before you go searching and creating for that Facebook group, you may want to consider a similar online group venue that’s a bit more specific to Skidmore: the Skidmore Connect class group page (click on icon on upper right). There are two advantages to using this group: classmates are already members and access is limited to Skidmore alumni ONLY. You can email, post messages and photos on the wall, and IM classmates. As previously mentioned, any class note you post will be displayed here as well.
We hope that Skidmore Connect will be a helpful and flexible set of tools for communicating with one another and the College. So take your time and explore. Figure out which features best fit your communications needs—and don’t forget to tell us about it. We greatly value your feedback on Skidmore Connect. It’s your network and we want it to make it work for you. Thank you.
