Dear Classmates,
Since my last class letter to you, much has happened within our Skidmore class family. Several classmates have died—most recently Marilee Karins Pellegrini and Bonnie Vare Smith—news that is always heart-wrenching and memory-filling. Class Secretary Gail Bendix Jaffe will include more information in our next issue of Scope.
In early February Jim and I enjoyed a long weekend on the east coast of Florida with Aaron and Elaine Perlman Cohen. The four of us spent a sun-drenched afternoon with John and Mary Anita (MA) Hoff Fallon at Gulfstream Race Track in Hallendale. Our visit included lunch at the Breakers in Palm Beach, long walks on the brick-lined “boardwalk” in Hollywood, and endless chatting about Skidmore friends. A few weeks later, Skidmore hosted an Alumni lunch in Naples, which we attended with classmates Carol Santry Covello, Floss Bishop Bogdan and Debbie Miller Wager (who was in Naples from Washington, DC). Evie Zoda Shippee ‘59 (my biology tutor in our freshman year) was there from Marco Island. So many of us are in Florida—at least during “the season” that we could have our own regular lunch bunch.
Some of our recent conversations have been focused on the question: “If you were back at Skidmore today, what would be your major?” Without question, mine would be Art. A once-serious painter, I have turned to beading over the past 6-7 years, even developing a small profitable business called Mary’s Beads. Last fall, we lunched with Richard and Hadley Sillick Robertson in suburban Philadelphia. A Skidmore math major, today Hadley is quite the horticulturist with a deep involvement in the production of their retirement center’s newsletter. We all have our gifts, many of which were nurtured during our Skidmore years. Please share your latest with Gail Jaffe so we might all enjoy your journey as well.
