Dear Classmates,
Happy New Year to all of you. Most of us reached that milestone decade last year, and now we can sit back and enjoy our 60s! I have lots of things to tell you about, but I’ll try to keep it short.
Our Class Scholar
Kristina McMurry ’12, our Class of ’74 Scholar last year, is such an exceptional young woman that she doubled up on her credits in the spring and summer and graduated early. So, we have another wonderful student to support this year. Her name is Larissa Van Rensselaer and she's a member of the Class of 2013. Larissa came to Skidmore from St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands. She is a theater major and works very closely with her academic advisor, Kate Bouchard, an artist-in-residence in the Theater department. Last summer, she participated in the SITI theater program that takes place on campus. I look forward to meeting Larissa at this year's event on campus for scholarship recipients and donors, and hope that a few classmates might be able to join me.
The Annual Fund
Thank you to everyone who responded to my letter in the fall by giving to Skidmore this fund year. With your support, the Class of 1974 is making good fundraising progress. So far, we have raised almost $51,000 from 19 percent of our class. This puts us a good way along the road to achieving our class goals of $75,000 and 40 percent participation by May 31. But that date is only three months away, and we still need to raise more than $25,000 from 90 donors. If you have not done so already, I encourage you to consider what size gift best fits your budget, and please contribute today. It’s easy to give by credit card at www.skidmore.edu click on Give Now.
Friends of the Presidents Match
An anonymous alum has committed to matching new Friends of the Presidents gifts up to $100,000. Wow! This would be a tremendous boost to the Annual Fund. So, if you have been giving at, say the $1,000 level, and you can bump up to the FOP level of $2,000, this indeed would be the year to do it. Every new FOP between March 1 and April 15 will mean an additional $2,000 for Skidmore. Think about it!
REUNION!
Believe me; it is not too early to be thinking about our 40th Reunion! It will be Thursday, May 29, through Sunday,
June 1, 2014. Make a note of the dates today, and please plan to join your classmates for a great time. And to make sure that it is the most wonderful Reunion ever, we’re having a planning weekend on campus this summer, from Thursday, July 25 to Saturday, July 27. Everyone can get involved―we need classmates to help plan events like outings and dinners, handle selecting and ordering class favors, organize the Class History, help with special Annual Fund planning, and more. This is your chance to speak up and make Reunion your own! Heck, the planning weekend is like a mini-Reunion itself and loads of fun.
Warm regards and best wishes for a happy, healthy, and peaceful 2013,
Steffenie
