Dear Class of 1962:
MORE WONDERFUL REUNION NOTES
REGISTRATION I hope by now you have registered for our 50th Reunion. I did it on-line, and without glitches… so you can, too! Or - you can mail the registration form or return it by fax. Just a hint: on the first page, there is a place to indicate how many adults; yourself and a spouse, partner or guest. I forgot to note that and wasn’t charged, but a phone call took care of that. Remember, we pay only a nominal registration fee. Everything else is paid for by Skidmore for the entire weekend!
HISTORY Due to the wonders of technology, it is possible to extend the deadline for submission of your Memoirs of Skidmore 1958-1962! The new due date is April 23, 2012. Please send your remembrances to Diane Macht Solomon at firstname.lastname@example.org. We have had a great response and would love to hear from many more of you. Where are all the business, political science, and English majors? Who lived in Peabody, Keyes or Nelson freshman year? Does anyone remember sunning on the gym roof? Who else was in the freshman class that Miss Benkovitz taught on the development of the English novel starting with Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde? What Professor opened your mind and made you work really hard? Thank you to all who have sent your 1-2 page responses.
SCHEDULES You have all received a schedule for Reunion Weekend. It is Not cast in stone. I already know of a few changes. At 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 2, Dayton Director John Weber and Malloy Curator Ian Berry will offer a behind-the-scenes tour of the Tang Museum featuring the exhibition Riot: Selections from the Ann Schapps Schaffer ’62 and Mel Schaffer Family Collection. The program will include a discussion of how Tang exhibitions are created and an in-depth exploration of the artists and themes gathered in Riot. The tour will be followed by a reception honoring the Schaffers for their support of the Tang Museum and Skidmore College. This event is hosted by the Tang’s National Advisory Council. The Memorial Service, just for members of the Class of 1962, will be held at
3:30 p.m. It will be led by some outstanding musicians from our class and will afford us with the opportunity to remember all of our classmates who are no longer with us.
LECTURE BY JOHN BRUEGGEMANN I heard him speak in October 2010 during Skidmore’s Celebration Weekend and he was fascinating. After the lecture, I asked if he is related to Walter B. He said, "He is my father." Does anyone else remember reading his books in religion class? Because of other events, our class is encouraged to go on Friday. You can order his book from Amazon.FUNDRAISING UPDATE A few of our classmates have issued a challenge to increase the number of donors supporting our class goal and to increase the number of Friends of the Presidents (FOP) donors. Our goal is $300,000 to provide $25,000 scholarships to 12 Skidmore students. Gifts and pledges now total well over $200,000 (8 scholarships).
The challengers will give $100 for every new gift and $500 for every new FOP gift ($2,000 or more). If you have been thinking about making a gift, please do it now. If you have ever thought about joining the Friends of the Presidents, this is the time to do so. What better way to celebrate our 50th Reunion than to provide future Skidmore students with the opportunities we had! If you have not already made a gift, please use the enclosed envelope to send your contribution now.PICTURES Please send fun, old pictures via e-mail to Mike Sposili, our staff liaison at email@example.com so he can put together a PowerPoint presentation/slideshow to be shown at one of our class dinners. Please don’t send the real thing and expect him to return them. Someone you know can help you do this. I know I need help!
WHO IS ATTENDING? By visiting the Reunion homepage on the Skidmore Website, you’ll be able to see who has registered. If you don’t see someone you would like to see in May, give them a call or send them an e-mail and encourage them to go! The list of registrants is updated daily, so keep checking back for updates!DRESS FOR SATURDAY’S PARADE If you have specific ideas on our attire for the parade, send them along to me. We’ve received several suggestions thus far and we’ll plan to provide you with an update in a future letter to the class.
Mollie Klee Heron, Reunion Chair
P.S. A member of our class has set up a small fund to help a classmate who needs financial assistance in order to attend our 50th Reunion. If you know of someone who could benefit from this support in order to return to Skidmore for the weekend, please contact Mike Sposili, our staff liaison at (518) 580-5612, or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
