March 2013
Dear Classmates,
It’s been a long time since I last wrote you an email, almost three years ago in fact. I thought I’d try again, considering my last email was likely pleading with you to show up to graduation rehearsal. Before you stop reading, I am NOT asking you for money, so please continue.
A lot has changed in three years: Scribner Village living is no more, the Price Chopper downtown is suddenly nice, and it’s no longer perpetually frigid and grey during the month of February (oh wait, it still is). Skidmore and Saratoga continue to move on without us, although I still can’t picture anyone else getting kicked out of the library late at night and having to settle for Case, or deciding to jump into Haupt Pond during Fun Day and immediately regretting that decision.
Since we’ve graduated, Skidmore continues to receive attention for some of its stranger attractions. Skidmore was recently rated one of the top schools in the country during the fall. No, this isn’t because of how pretty Saratoga and the Adirondacks can be in the fall, it is primarily because of Moorebid Ball and all the madness that ensues over that weekend. Seriously, Newsweek also recently rated Skidmore as the 9th happiest school in the country and Backstage.com recently ranked the Skidmore Dance Department as one of the top 5 departments in the country.
As part of Skidmore’s ongoing effort to provide greater support to recent graduates and alumni in their career development and transitions, the Career Development Center has brought on Jenna Hartwell as the new Associate Director of Alumni Career Development. Jenna provides individual career counseling to Skidmore graduates and works with alumni to create networking connections for current students and alums. She seems like a great resource, alumni interested in working with Jenna may contact her by calling the Career Development Center at (518) 580-5790.
Just wanted to keep you posted and let you know that while some Skidmore traditions might be things of the past, others are very much going strong.
Your class secretary Claire Solomon has asked me to remind you to send class notes to her at claire.a.solomon@gmail.com. But really, she reads them…ALL OF THEM, and they are by far the highlight of her year.
I hope you are all doing well wherever this finds you, please feel free to be in touch with anything, anytime.
Michael
